Official Ribbon-Cutting Scheduled for Foxbank Elementary

Foxbank ElementaryIt’s the moment you have all been waiting for: Foxbank Elementary will have an official ribbon-cutting on August 19 at 3 p.m. and will welcome students for the 2018-2019 school year.

The initial enrollment for the first day of school is projected to be 750 students. Foxbank Elementary will be a STEAM school with a specialized focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.

In August, Foxbank Elementary will begin its STEAM training with Clemson University’s Dani Herro and University of Pittsburgh’s Cassie Quigley. They have received the first STEAM endorsement in the nation and have been guiding Berkeley County’s STEAM initiatives. The school’s staff will also have an opportunity to work with national arts consultants, Sean Layne and Melanie Rick.

The school itself features a centralized pre-kindergarten playground and courtyard for the students to enjoy. There is also a centralized media center that was designed to be a focal point, and includes collaborative spaces, a computer room, conference room and media studio.

Another exciting element of the school is the implementation of a “Makerspace” that will allow students to explore and create. The school’s media specialist brings with her a strong journalism background and education experiences that will benefit both our students and our community.

Currently, the number of teachers slated to teach at Foxbank Elementary is approximately 45. Additional staff will be added as the school needs are determined. On average, the Berkeley County School District has implemented a 25:1 ratio of students to teachers for second through fifth grade, a 18:1 ratio of students to teachers for first grade, and a 24:1 ratio of students to teacher and assistant in kindergarten.

The school administration is particularly excited about the school’s selected mascot, the Boykin Spaniel, which was selected by the Berkeley County community. Foxbank Elementary is the first school to implement South Carolina’s state dog. The administration also included other elements within the logo that represent our state and the Lowcountry.

We are thrilled that the overall vision for Foxbank Plantation is coming to fruition. The opening of Foxbank Elementary this fall is a huge milestone for our community!
