With Memorial Day coming up at the end of the month, we know there are going to be countless opportunities to celebrate our troops — both past and present.
However, because this year will mark the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the town of Moncks Corner decided to honor Vietnam War veterans and survivors in a truly memorable way.
This Friday, May 6, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is partnering with the Department of Defense and town of Moncks Corner to commemorate the Vietnam War by honoring veterans by recreating a welcome home celebration to thank them for their service. The event will start at noon at the Regional Recreation Complex in Moncks Corner, and is for all United States Vietnam War veterans and Vietnam-era veterans.
Keep an eye out for plenty of red, white and blue, as the planning committee for the event will line American flags on both sides of Main Street and hang a “Welcome Home” banner that will greet guests as they enter the Regional Recreation Complex. Following a special presentation, veterans will be recognized with cards and pins, which will be distributed by the mayor and General Marion’s Brigade members.
We are extremely privileged to have so many veterans willing to put their lives on the line to defend our country and our freedom. If you are unable to attend this event on Friday, we hope that you are able to take some time this month to celebrate these brave men and women.
