As a Marine Corps veteran, Darren Reid understands the time and discipline it takes to start a new business.
After returning home from serving and planting roots in Foxbank Plantation, Darren immediately set his sights on opening his own business: Subtomic, a fresh, local delicatessen.
“There weren’t a lot of places for residents to get food,” said Darren, who is also a native of the Lowcountry. “I wanted to give people a healthier option that was both delicious and convenient.”
When it comes to ingredients, Subtomic will only offer the best. The meats and cheeses will be from Boar’s Head and the bread will be baked daily. Plus, they’ll offer a range of options to satisfy every type of craving. Wraps, subs, salads, you name it Subtomic has it. Or, at least, they will soon. And for those who don’t have time to make it over to the deli, Subtomic will eventually deliver to Foxbank and surrounding areas.
But for now, Darren is focused on more than just evolving the menu. With a mom-and-pop mentality, he hopes his restaurant will be able to maintain a fun, family friendly atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
“I want Subtomic to be a reflection of the incredible atmosphere that is already established here at Foxbank,” said Darren. “I have such great neighbors, I want to pay tribute to what makes this community so special.”
When asked about his other favorite parts about living at Foxbank Plantation, Darren shared, “it is just such a nice area. I love that there is still plenty of nature and wildlife to be enjoyed. It’s got just enough of a country-feel to be secluded, but is close enough to the city if you need to go into town for anything.”
Be sure to stop in and meet Darren in-person when Subtomic opens in the Shops at Foxbank later this year!
