Now that a new season is upon us at Foxbank Plantation in Moncks Corner, it’s time to pull out those calendars and start planning for some of the best events around town this month. With events for foodies, families, friends, and festival-goers, there’s no shortage of exciting things happening in the Lowcountry.
16th Annual Harvest Festival – Nov. 4
Best known for its foot-stompin’ showcase of Charleston’s local bluegrass talent, the Harvest Festival features five of the Lowcountry’s top bluegrass bands. There is also plenty of food to savor, including Southern barbecue, roasted and boiled peanuts, kettle corn and tons of other traditional festival fares. You’ll even have the opportunity to get a jump start on holiday shopping by browsing through the booths at the festival’s local crafters’ market.
Charleston Mac Off – Nov. 4
No other food combines love, comfort and Southern roots like mac and cheese, and this year you’ll be able to enjoy all the cheesy goodness at The Grove at Patriots Point. Featuring 20 mac and cheese restaurants, a free Kids Zone, live music, as well as free programmed activities and food demonstrations, there’s no denying that this year’s Charleston Mac Off will be the cheesiest yet!
Explore the magic of the season up close at this year’s Holiday Festival of Lights Fun Run and Walk! This two-mile, non-competitive event is offered two nights before the festival’s opening. Attendees will get a preview of the festival’s 700+ illuminated displays and amenities, including gift shops, marshmallow roasting, train and carousel rides and lots of other holiday fun.
For an entire week, you’ll have the opportunity to sample some of the best burgers in the Lowcountry as part of a city-wide celebration. The best part? Nobody will judge you for stuffing your face! With burgers from Sullivan’s to Summerville, this event gives love to grass-fed, bison, black bean and every type of burger in between.
One of the oldest Southern traditions around, the Steeplechase of Charleston is back at The Plantation at Stono Ferry Racetrack for another year of horse racing fun. Featuring more than 60 horses and over 8,000 attendees, there is plenty to keep you occupied at this all-day event. So come dressed in your Steeplechase best and enjoy!
40th Annual Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble – Nov. 23
Join the rest of the Lowcountry at the largest 5K in South Carolina as they gather before their Thanksgiving feasts to help raise money for more than 24 different Charleston charities. The race starts and ends in Marion Square, taking you through all the iconic streets of Charleston, and ending with live music and complimentary food and refreshments. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 704, this is one family tradition you don’t want to miss!
