Homes for Sale Near Charleston, South Carolina

Foxbank Plantation offers homes for sale in a master-planned community that's only a short drive from historic Charleston, a coastal city known worldwide for its historic architecture and bricked streets, incredible hospitality, beautiful beaches and lively food scene. Considered a top tourist destination, Charleston is beloved for its pastel-colored row houses, Spanish moss-draped oaks, horse-drawn carriages, open-air market and wind-blown forts. But it's also a prospering, busy, youthful and ever-growing city: a bustling port, it's home to manufacturing plants including Boeing and was recently named one of the country's 10 fastest growing cities for software and Internet technologies.

With all these distinctions, it's no surprise the population of the tri-county area (Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester) has grown more than 10 percent in the last five years, according to the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. Its strong real estate market shows demand outpacing supply. Drawn to the area's unique mix of culture and coast, new residents continue to move here daily.

The area's historic, cultural and outdoor attractions keep both residents and visitors busy, and include Civil War must-sees like Fort Sumter, a rocky island upon which the first shots of the war were fired. Among the city's many historic museum houses are the Nathaniel Russell House, with its spiraling staircase, and Aiken Rhett House, with outbuildings virtually unaltered since the mid-1800s. One of the highlights of the open-air Old City Market is local craftswomen demonstrating how Charleston's famous sweetgrass baskets are sewn together using palmetto fronds. And then there's King Street, a shopping, strolling and dining mecca with something for everyone.

Travel down Highway 61 to hit three historic plantations and gardens that sit on the Ashley River, including Middleton Place, the nation.s oldest landscaped gardens, with ancient camellias, roses and magnolias, terraced lawns and ornamental ponds dating to 1741.

North of Charleston, across the pedestrian-friendly Ravenel Bridge, the fast-growing Mt. Pleasant suburban area boasts much to do, too, at the new Memorial Waterfront Park as well as the popular WWII USS Yorktown carrier at Patriot's Point and the beautiful beaches of the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island.
